Why Be Real When It’s Easy to Pretend?
In today’s social media society, many people put up a front to pretend to be something that they are not.
These pretenders make others believe that they are successful entrepreneurs when they are truly just starting.
And I get it…..sometimes people want to seem more credible than they are because it allows them to get clients easier, but in the end…..it is just a made-up story that one day will come back to bite them in the behind.
This issue is something that I am very careful not to overstep boundaries. I, myself, am an early-stage entrepreneur who hasn’t made millions and millions yet. Will I get there, absolutely. But, I do not pretend to be that ultra-successful entrepreneur as I don’t want it to seem to people that I am lying to them or pretending to be something that I am not.
I am an extremely intelligent and smart person, but I’m not the most knowledgeable person. I realize that I have so much more to learn about this world that we all live in. All of the knowledge that I share is simply me recycling the knowledge that other successful people and mentors have shared with me.
So why am I sharing all of this with you?
After listening to this amazing interview between Andy Frisella and Ed Mylett, which you should check out, I was inspired by their conversation about people pretending to be something they are not. By putting up this front, you only hurt yourself and the people you feed this information to. In the same breath, it is vitally important for you to have that positive mental outlook on yourself and see yourself as that person that you want to be, but don’t lie to people and pretend to be something you are not. Don’t go around claiming to have achieved x, y, or z when you haven’t done that. Don’t rent the Lambo to seem like you have made it and to impress other people.
In the end, keep it simple and be true to yourself. Keep you and your message real. People will appreciate you being real with them so much more than you pretending to be something you are not.
