You Read Hours Per Day and Don’t Even Realize It

Ya, I know….it seems crazy. It may seem like this is some clickbait title to bait and switch you. Don’t worry; it’s not though 😊 😂

You really spend hours and hours per day reading, and you don’t even consciously know it.

Reading texts, reading websites, reading the article online, reading the caption under the Instagram Post, reading an email, and of course, reading this blog 😎….. the list can go on and on. Every day, we are all reading for hours without even knowing it.

As you begin to read more of my blogs and see more of my content, you will come to find that I am huge about productivity and efficiency. I am always looking for new ways to save me 30 seconds here, 1 minute there. The reason why is because I realize that time is the most valuable thing, way more valuable than money. Instead of looking for that new app or service that saves me 15 seconds per transition in apps, I decided to take a step back and look at where I was spending the most time in my day. My findings: reading and typing (typing course will come at some point in the future, haha). After realizing that I spend hours and hours per day reading, I thought, “How much time could I save if I just increased my reading speed by 25%, 50%, 100%?” And that is exactly what I am looking to do now.

Three days ago, I started a speed reading course by Jim Kwik. This is a 21-day program where you are taken through a journey with a specific plan every day to improve your reading speed and improve your reading comprehension. It has only been 3 days of the program, but the results are astounding. I have already gone from reading 261 WPM (words per minute) on Day 1 to now reading 539 WPM on Day 3. (I’m not exaggerating).

Just this increase in my reading speed alone will save me over 1/2 of the time that I was previously spending on reading…..and it’s only been 3 days out of 21.

What is my point in sharing this?

  1. Time is the most valuable thing….treat it as such.

  2. Find the areas in your life where you are spending the most of your time and find if you can improve the process to save yourself time. (If it is family time and the objective is to chill and enjoy the time with your family, don’t try to speed this up, haha)

  3. To share with you my journey in this speed/smart reading course. I hope that documenting this may inspire you to realize the above two points and start taking action today. Successful individuals are those who take action quickly and decisively.

For those of you who are curious and want to look into taking the course on speed reading, here is the link so you can check it out.
